Framework for Social and Economic Development

"Be anxiously concerned with the needs of the age ye live in, and centre your deliberations on its exigencies and requirements." - Bahá’u’lláh.

Bahá’í development projects are part of a global enterprise where Bahá’í teachings are applied to address the needs of society. Central to this framework is the question of capacity building, where knowledge is generated through a process of learning consisting of a cycle of action, reflection, study of guidance, and consultation. Activities start in a modest scale and grow in complexity as people gradually learn by doing. This involves thought and practice.

Preparation for Social Action Programme (PSA)

“That one indeed is a man who, today, dedicateth himself to the service of the entire human race. The Great Being saith: Blessed and happy is he that ariseth to promote the interests of the people and kindreds of the earth”. – Bahá’u’lláh

PSA is a community-based training programme aimed at preparing young people to become Promoters of Community Well-being and agents of social and economic development of their community.
The programme helps participants to develop the required capacity to think and act as they participate in community-building processes, thereby generating and applying the knowledge gained through experience. It further helps them to mobilize the community, initiate and manage projects in various areas of community development, including support for food production, promoting environmental health, supporting family and community health efforts, and fostering community-based educational initiatives for children.
